It was Severus Snape's first day back at Hogwarts after an extended stay in St. Mungo's. After the final battle he had been taken there to help recover from multiple wounds, and especially in making sure that all of Nagini's venom was out of his body and that it would have no long term affects. Minerva informed him that, while he was away, two of his colleagues had been teaching his classes. As Horace Slughorn had run back into retirement after the war ended, Severus had resumed his position as potions master...Or would today. Aurora Sinsitra and Bathsheba Babbling had split the first through fourth years between themselves while Septima Vector, the only one of them with a mastery in potions, had dealt with his fifth through seventh years.
Now Severus was back, to a class he hadn't taught in over a year, as he had been the Defense instructor last year and headmaster of the school the first few months of the new term. He was hoping that no one had announced his return. The looks on his students' faces when they realized he was back would be highly amusing, to say the least.
He was sure to take all of the prescribed potions (or rather, his superior version of the prescribed potions) and paced around his chambers a moment before finally deeming himself prepared for the day. He would act as though nothing had happened, and would expect nothing less than he normally did from the dunderheads.
As much as he loathed the brats, he had to admit to feeling some excitement for the new day. Perhaps teaching looked good only because he was finally out of that loathsome hospital and away from healers with sad smiles and kind words that made him want to bite their heads off. This was territory he was familiar with. Being in the hospital hadn't exactly helped him adjust to life post-war, but he wasn't going to sit around obsessing over it or celebrating life like every other imbecile. He was only returning to normalcy, or what counted as it in his world. And despite his glower and the tight line of his lips, he couldn't be more relieved to be doing so.
Dramatically he swept into the room and easily made his way to the front of the class, giving out quiet, yet firm, instructions. "Turn to page 278." Once at his desk...His old desk...He removed his wand and summoned the potions text that the seventh years were using and flipped it to the correct page. "Tell me about the Polyjuice Potion. Anyone?"
