HISTORY: Ginny was born on a hot summers day. Her parents, Arthur and Molly, had always wanted a girl, and after six boys she came as a relief. She was pushed about a little by her boisterous brothers, but she soon learnt to toughen up and become one of the boys. She was used to magic, but not afraid or puzzled by muggle technology. That wasn’t to say she could use it, though.

As she grew up, she learnt that, in a household full of boys, feelings were taboo. She played pranks on her brothers, usually helping out the twins, and read everything she could on magic for when she went to Hogwarts. She often wore clothes that had been through three or four brother’s first and were mostly darn and patches, but she didn’t think that money had anything to do with happiness.

She first saw Harry Potter a year before she went to Hogwarts, and instantly idolised him. That year was boring with no-one to play with, not even Ron, but she was well-read on the Boy who Lived for when she went to Hogwarts. She got made fun of a few times for having second-hand everything but she could stick up for herself.

Only she found a diary in amongst her books. She couldn’t work out what it did, but she wrote in it and found that someone called Tom wrote back. Through the year, Tom was her friend-in-a-pocket, being nice to her when no-one else was and listening to her babbling about Harry Potter. Sometimes she couldn’t remember things and was confused, but she just thought she was tired.

She realised, somewhere along the lines, that she was the one attacking people. She didn’t want anyone to find out, and she had written in that diary, so she flushed it away in the bathroom that no-one entered. Only, a week later, Harry’s bag fell open and Ginny saw the diary. She knew that she had to get it back- what if Tom told him all that stuff that Ginny had written about him?

She broke into Harry’s dorm and tore it apart looking for the diary. She couldn’t leave any trace of herself and she was panicking, so she just left it in the mess that it was. She had the diary back- but the diary wanted her. She went into a chamber in the bathroom that no-one entered and saw Tom. The last thing she remembered was him coming out of the diary, then she blacked out.

When she woke up, Harry was there with a sword. A gigantic dead snake was lying on the floor, and the diary was ruined. Ginny was so disappointed with herself for attacking the muggleborns- she was going to be expelled, what would her parents say? She couldn’t bear it. Professor Dumbledore saved her when he told her that You-Know-Who had tricked her into it.

Everyone knew that it was her, and rumours spread about the school like wildfire. Ginny didn’t know if they would have died down by the time that she returned from the holidays.

Ginny’s alarm rang and she quickly snapped it off. She threw herself out of bed and pulled on her clothes, beaming at her tidy room. After making her bed, she flipped open the lid of her trunk and checked that she had everything- her school books, her robes, her wand, and the strange diary she had found tucked into her cauldron. Maybe she would check that out sometime- after all, Tom Riddle must have lost this, and she couldn’t let it go to waste. She could keep a diary of her first ever year at Hogwatys. She slammed the lid and skipped downstairs.

“Morning mum!” she squealed and hurriedly made herself breakfast. Choking it down as fast as she could, she flung the bowl in the sink, ran upstairs to clean her teeth and brushed her hair. Today was the day she went to Hogwarts and she wanted to get there as quickly as possible. An idea snuck into her head- surely the boys wouldn’t be up yet?

She crept up the staircase to Ron’s little attic room. She could hear movement and muffled voices inside which were getting faster by the minute. Quickly, Ginny took off her cardigan, slid the sleeve end under the door and started tugging at it, as an excuse as to why she was outside the room. The door was swung open and she squeaked as the jumper flew into her grip. Harry was standing there, looking puzzled, and Ginny was grinning inside as she blushed and ran off. Her morning was complete- she was utterly ready, her trunk packed, and she had seen Harry Potter. This was going to be the best year of her life.
